As part of the BIKE deLANcEy Summer Street Action our goal is to connect cyclists and pedestrians with the Lower East Side community.

Please join us after the ride for a special event to learn about the newly proposed redesign of the Allen Street Malls, and the history of the Lower East Side UNRAP Coalliton hosted by Hester Street Collaborative.

**More about HSC:
Hester Street Collaborative (HSC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the physical environment in underserved New York City neighborhoods using a participatory planning and design approach. Our guiding principle is that civic engagement in participatory design helps under-resourced residents have a profound impact on the overall health and well-being of their communities.

HSC works with local residents, particularly youth, to transform neglected public spaces in parks, schools, and affordable housing developments through a "design-build" process which allows stakeholders to have a hands-on role. This participatory design-build approach encourages people to care for their built environment through planning and realizing a shared vision.

**Brief History of UNRAP:
United Neighbors to Revitalize Allen and Pike Street (UNRAP) formed in 2003 and is a coalition of Lower East Side and Chinatown stakeholders leading local involvement in the revitalization of the Allen and Pike Street corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors to these neighborhoods

UNRAP Members include Asian Americans for Equality, Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Lower East Side Business Improvement District, Hester Street Collaborative, Office of City Council Member Alan J Gerson, Two Bridges Neighborhood Council, and Community Board 3

**BIKE deLANcEy is a summer-long street action with bi-monthly commuter rides every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.

THE GOAL - To unify with numbers, create and connect with the local LES community, and make a powerful statement to the City that we want safer access for both pedestrians and cyclists along Delancey Street. Watch a preview of some of the street conditions we want to fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjMDnrJxwUw

THE BI-MONTHLY RIDES - Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month join us for commuter rides that will start at 6pm. Each ride will start with a bike bus action that will have groups of 20 or so cyclists reclaim the inner lane of traffic for safe passage to and from the Williamsburg Bridge. After the bike bus rides we will host different themed events that will include outreach and meetings with local community groups, petitioning with local businesses, senior center visits, historical bicycle tours, and much, much more. Our hope, overall, is to start a real connection and engagement with the Lower East Side Community in discussion of how to make Delancey a safer street for all.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED - Come join us every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month all summer long!

3. Link to our Adopt-A-Bike Lane Calendar

The Adopt-A-Bike Lane Initiative launched in Fall 2008 with a rally and ride after a large amount of community feedback and concern that Delancey Street in Lower Manhattan is currently unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists. In 2008, alone, we saw two fatalities along Delancey Street. We cannot wait any longer to wake the City up! It is time to show local officials that we want safer streets NOW!
